CMS plan to halve same-day service pay draws pushback

CMS is proposing to halve reimbursement for procedures performed during the same appointment as a standard office visit (https://theamericanstarnews.com/cms-proposal-to-halve-reimbursements-for-combined-services-draws-pushback/), which the agency says targets duplicative same-day billing. MGMA's Anders Gilberg calls it the sleeper provision of the proposed 2027 fee schedule, which he walked through today (https://www.physicianspractice.com/view/another-year-of-medicare-cuts-with-anders-gilberg-of-mgma), and a similar 2019 attempt died after the same pushback. Now the AMA and more than 150 other healthcare organizations are urging CMS to withdraw it, with the comment window closing September 14 under file code CMS-1848-P.
